Membership Overview
The Humanitarian Platform for Local and National Organisations in Uganda is open to local and national organizations that work or are interested in humanitarian preparedness and response. These include community-based organisations, district- and national-based organisations, and faith-based organisations.
The platform also welcomes individuals, international agencies, government entities and authorities that have an interest or stake in seeing that local and national organisations play a more active and effective role in the humanitarian system of Uganda. These categories of stakeholders may propose ideas and guide the platform’s strategic focus.
Membership Criteria
- Membership of the Humanitarian Platform shall be open to local and national organisations only that subscribe to the stipulated objectives of the Humanitarian Platform.
- Membership of the Platform shall be voluntary through the expression of interest by organisations. Such expression of interest shall be followed by verification of institutional documents to ensure the credibility of the organization.
- Membership of the Platform shall be confirmed by the interested organisation signing up to the Platform guiding document.
Membership Categories
Membership categories and subscription fees shall be as follows:
A. Full members are organisations with voting rights – i.e. organisations or institutions legally registered in Uganda and fully subscribed to the Platform. The starting annual membership fees for regular/full members at registration shall be Ugx.100,000 (one hundred thousand shillings only). Thereafter in subsequent years, the annual fees shall be Ugx. 50,000 (fifty thousand shillings only) until decided otherwise.
B. Associate members:- These shall be individuals or organisations within or outside Uganda who provide humanitarian aid, including training and research. Such organisations may not be registered but allowed to operate in Uganda by the relevant government authority. The annual membership fees for associate members shall be Ugx. 200,000 (two hundred fifty thousand shillings only) for international organisations and Ugx. 100,000 (One hundred thousand shillings only) for indigenous organisations.
C. Corporate members:- These shall be individuals, Development Partners, International NGOs, the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF), the Ministry of Local Government, United Nations (UN) Agencies and the Uganda NGO Bureau. These advise and advance the Platform’s strategic focus. Corporate members shall not pay membership fees.
Role of Members
The roles of the Platform members include the following:
- Members shall vote and be voted for into leadership positions of the Humanitarian Platform
- Members shall participate actively in the Platform activities
- Members will share information from their constituency with other members through the Secretariat
- Members will share with their constituencies updates from the platform
- Members shall promote the Platform agenda, values and visibility
- Members shall contribute resources to the Humanitarian Platform voluntarily
- Each member shall sign up to the Humanitarian Platform Accountability Charter – the Quality Assurance Mechanism (QuAM) (i.e. members shall adhere to ethical and operational standards espoused in QuAM in order to build the Platform’s credibility and integrity)
- Members shall meet their financial and other obligations to the Humanitarian Platform
