Proscovia M. NJUKI inspected the progress of works at Karuma (600MW) Hydropower Project to ascertain the project status and readiness for commissioning. Currently, the project\u2019s overall progress stands at 99% and is due for commissioning this year. The Board was accompanied by members of UEGCL Management led by Dr. Eng. Harrison E. Mutikanga \u2013 CEO, UEGCL, and members from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uegcl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG_4755-700x467.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1731\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>UEGCL Board of Directors led by Eng. Proscovia M. NJUKI inspected the progress of works at Karuma (600MW) Hydropower Project to ascertain the project status and readiness for commissioning.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We are glad to note that, the contractor has closed several non-conformances that were previously identified by the Owners Engineer in the mechanical, electrical, and civil works which had delayed the project commissioning. Upon commissioning, Karuma HPP will add 600MW to the national grid which will increase the country\u2019s total installed capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are greatly pleased with the level of commitment from the EPCC Sinohydro Corporation Ltd towards closing the identified non-conformances and the completion of the national flagship project which gives us hope that we are indeed on course for commissioning this year.\u201d Said Eng. NJUKI<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board also inspected the progress of works for the Karuma (600MW) Hydropower Project Community Development Action Program (CDAP) Phase I works at Diima Primary School , Kiryandongo District which are currently at 93% overall physical progress. The few remaining works include the installation of solar system and architectural finishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 3 billion shillings project has been divided into 3 lots; and the works include the construction of 2 classroom blocks with an office, 4 staff houses &amp; 4 stance VIP latrines at each of the following schools; Nora Primary School in Oyam as Lot 1, Purongo Primary School in Nwoya as Lot 2 and Diima Primary School in Kiryandongo as Lot 3. These projects are supervised by UEGCL in collaboration with the District Local Government officials from Oyam, Kiryandongo &amp; Nwoya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In line with the Buy Uganda, Build Uganda (BUBU) policy geared towards promoting the use of locally manufactured goods and use of local skills\/personnel. &nbsp;Lot 1 is being undertaken by Beru Investments Ltd while Lots 2 and 3 are being undertaken by Savannah Engineering Works Ltd and Birime Construction Company Ltd respectively.
