This facility stands as a cornerstone of Uganda\u2019s energy security, but it is currently grappling with alarming financial challenges that threaten to bring its operations to a halt by December 2025 if urgent measures are not taken. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the pressing concerns is a staggering funding gap of UGX 60.9 billion, desperately needed for essential maintenance, overhauls, and the settlement of outstanding capacity payments. The plant\u2019s equipment, much of it aging and outdated, is in dire need of repair, with some engines already rendered inoperable due to a lack of critical spare parts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Compounding these issues, no government subsidies have been allocated since December 2022, despite prior approval from Parliament. This situation has raised urgent alarms within the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL), which is calling for immediate action to keep the plant functional and capable of supporting the energy demands of Uganda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the committee has pledged its unwavering support, promising to advocate for the necessary interventions to ensure that this vital energy source continues to serve the nation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
