As part of the prestigious 100th District Conference of Rotary International held in Jinja, Uganda, Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) had the distinct honor of hosting a high-profile delegation of Rotarians from various regions of Uganda at the Nalubaale-Kiira Hydropower Complex. This visit marked a unique intersection between service leadership and national infrastructure, offering participants a deeper understanding of Uganda\u2019s hydropower landscape and its pivotal role in the country\u2019s socio-economic development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rotary delegation, led by Eng. James Nkonka embarked on a comprehensive educational tour of the Nalubaale and Kiira Hydropower Plants \u2014 Uganda\u2019s oldest hydroelectric power plants. These two plants, both located along the majestic River Nile in Jinja, collectively contribute 380 megawatts to Uganda\u2019s national grid and are instrumental in powering homes, industries, and institutions across the nation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group was warmly received and guided through the facilities by Mr. Peter Tentena, Acting Generation Manager at UEGCL. Mr. Tentena provided an in-depth overview of the technical operations, historical evolution, and strategic importance of both power stations. He elaborated on how UEGCL ensures the reliability of energy production through meticulous operation and maintenance schedules, as well as the integration of sustainable practices to minimize environmental impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A key focus of the visit was to help the Rotarians understand the broader picture of Uganda\u2019s energy ecosystem \u2014 from generation and transmission to national grid contribution and long term sustainability. The delegation engaged in thoughtful discussions about the challenges faced in power generation, such as aging infrastructure, climate variability, and increasing demand, along with the innovative solutions UEGCL is implementing to address them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beyond the technical insights, the visit also offered the Rotarians a chance to experience the awe-inspiring beauty of the surrounding environment. The stunning views of the River Nile, coupled with the engineering marvel of the hydroelectric plants, showcased the harmonious <\/p>\n\n\n\n
