This visit was part of an ongoing benchmarking and familiarization program initiated by Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) to build stronger ties with district leadership across the country.

The Apac team’s visit comes on the heels of a successful three-day benchmarking workshop recently held with the leadership of Kayunga District, highlighting UEGCL’s commitment to inclusive dialogue and cross-district collaboration. These visits are designed to offer leaders

from various regions a closer look at the operational framework behind Uganda’s power generation and to deepen their understanding of how such infrastructure supports national development.

Led by UEGCL officials, the Apac District delegation was taken on a guided tour of the 183MW Isimba Hydropower Plant, where they explored several critical components of the facility, including:

The Central Control Room, where plant operations are continuously monitored and controlled to ensure optimal performance and grid stability.

The Erection Bay – a crucial area for the assembly, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical components.

The Turbine Floor – home to the plant’s turbines, the heart of electricity generation, where the kinetic energy of flowing water is transformed into electrical power.

The Intake and Downstream Areas – key sections of the water flow system, vital for maintaining generation efficiency and environmental integrity.

Throughout the tour, UEGCL technical experts provided detailed briefings, answered questions, and shared insights into the challenges and innovations involved in managing a hydropower facility of this magnitude. The delegation expressed keen interest in understanding how hydropower plants like Isimba contribute to Uganda’s energy grid, and how local governments can collaborate with national institutions to promote reliable and sustainable energy solutions.

This interaction not only provided Apac District leaders with practical exposure to Uganda’s renewable energy generation but also opened doors for potential future partnerships aimed at promoting rural electrification, infrastructure development, and community outreach initiatives.

The visit concluded with a renewed sense of cooperation and shared responsibility between UEGCL and Apac District. By investing in these exchanges, UEGCL continues to demonstrate its commitment to transparency, education, and inclusive growth in the energy sector.

#UEGCL #IsimbaHPP #ApacDistrict #HydropowerTour #BenchmarkingVisit #PoweringUganda #StakeholderEngagement #SustainableDevelopment

In a continued effort to strengthen stakeholder engagement and promote knowledge-sharing within Uganda’s energy sector, Isimba Hydropower Plant (HPP) had the pleasure of hosting a distinguished delegation from Apac District.
