Ugandan Scholar Honored in China for Poverty Eradication Efforts

Beijing, China – Rotarian Dr. Opul Joseph, a Ugandan academic and development practitioner, has been recognized for his outstanding contributions towards poverty eradication and youth empowerment.

Dr. Opul, who serves as Director of the Opul Skilling Foundation Africa (OSFA) and Quality Education Consultancy Ltd (QECL), as well as Lecturer at Gulu University and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Dar es Salaam, was honored with a book titled “ _Our Common Goal: International Experience in Poverty Eradication”_ . The award was presented by Dr. Bi Jieying, Director of the General Office at the Center for International Agricultural Research (CAAS), People’s Republic of China.

The recognition, made during a workshop on _Innovative Poverty Alleviation Models_ at the 21st Century Hotel in Beijing, celebrates Dr. Opul’s ambitious initiatives aimed at nurturing 20 million business startups and innovations as a pathway to lifting millions out of poverty.

Speaking after receiving the honor, Dr. Opul described it as both humbling and motivating. “This recognition is not about me as an individual, but about the millions of young people across Africa who deserve opportunities to innovate and thrive. It gives me renewed energy to keep pushing for practical solutions to poverty through skilling, entrepreneurship, and education,” he said.
