Minister’s timely letter triggers 200 iron sheet donation to storm-hit schools

In what locals have hailed as a “rescue mission with results,” three storm-battered primary schools in Ngariam County—Ocwin, Apeuru-Aodot, and Abela—have received a much-needed lifeline: 200 iron sheets delivered by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to help repair rooftops destroyed by recent hailstorms.
A MINISTER WHO WRITES — AND GETS RESULTS
The intervention follows a formal appeal written by Hon. Peter Ogwang, Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports) and MP for Ngariam County, on February 25, 2025, calling on the OPM to address the storm damage that had crippled learning in the affected schools.
Less than five months later, action followed.
On July 25, 2025, Permanent Secretary Davis Mwanye issued a directive to the Katakwi District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), instructing that the iron sheets be delivered strictly to the three schools named in Ogwang’s letter.
TARGETED RELIEF, NOT A POLITICAL FREE-FOR-ALL
The OPM directive was unambiguous:
“The materials are solely for the affected schools. This is not for general relief, nor political diversion.”
The CAO was further directed to collaborate with local politicians to ensure distribution within 14 days, tightening accountability and protecting the integrity of the response.
NEW ROOFS, NEW HOPE
With roofs torn off and classrooms left exposed to the elements, pupils and teachers had been braving makeshift shelters and abandoned learning altogether in some cases.
But now, thanks to this timely gesture, safe learning environments are on the horizon.
“Children had nowhere to learn. Now, we can finally rebuild,” said a relieved head teacher from Ocwin Primary School.
OGWANG: THE HAND THAT MOVES THE WHEELS
While some leaders hold microphones, Hon. Peter Ogwang wields the power of letters, results, and relentless follow-up. His advocacy has not only secured tangible relief but also reaffirmed his role as a tireless servant of Ngariam County.
“This is not a donation from me,” he told reporters. “This is the government responding to the people—my role is to make sure our voice is heard.”
A BLUEPRINT FOR RESPONSIVE LEADERSHIP
The swift delivery of iron sheets stands as a case study in what good governance looks like:
✅ Need identified
✅ Action requested
✅ Resources delivered
✅ Accountability demanded
As Ngariam County prepares to restore its storm-hit schools, residents are reminded that effective representation isn’t about loud slogans — it’s about silent service.
Ngariam may face storms, but with leaders like Ogwang, it refuses to break.
