This data is essential for informed decision-making, policy formulation, planning, and regulation of water use across various sectors. The department carries out nationwide monitoring through hydrological and hydrogeological networks, water quality surveillance, and remote sensing technologies. It supports critical functions such as flood and drought forecasting, groundwater mapping, and water balance analysis, which are crucial for climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness. By producing annual water resources assessments and technical reports, the department ensures stakeholders, including government agencies, development partners, and the public, have access to actionable water information.
