Recognizing that many of Uganda\u2019s rivers, lakes, and aquifers extend across national boundaries, the department plays a vital role in negotiating and implementing bilateral and multilateral agreements that promote equitable and sustainable use of these shared resources. It represents Uganda in regional water governance frameworks such as the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC), and other international platforms focused on water diplomacy, conflict prevention, and environmental sustainability. By facilitating joint water assessments, data sharing, and harmonized policy development, the department contributes to peacebuilding, climate resilience, and socio-economic development across borders.
