I am benefiting from fish, water and a good environment, says a former wetland user
My name is Grace Akello Abwin. I am 60 years old. I am a mother of 10 children. I am a former
wetland user. I grew rice for several years until the government advised us to leave the wetland.
At the time when I actively participated in rice growing, our community had challenges with
water. The women, especially, had issues with safe water for drinking. After us, leaving the
wetland; we no longer suffer much from water scarcity issues. We now have flooding instead.
The wetland has recovered, and I am benefiting from fish, water, and a good environment.
Besides, I received an improved goat which has since given birth twice. I desire to grow this
enterprise until it becomes more profitable. I thank the government and its partners for the
support given.
