Background and Education
Aisha Sekindi was born on 4 December 1970 in Uganda. She began her education at Kyato Muslim Primary School, completing her primary studies in 1984. She then attended Kadugala Secondary School, where she obtained her Uganda Certificate of Education in 1988. In 1995, she earned a Teachers Certificate from Kibuli Teacher Training College.
Academic Career
Sekindi commenced her professional journey in education as the Deputy Headteacher at Saint Kizito Primary School in Lwengo District, serving from 1997 to 2001.
Political Career
Transitioning into politics, Sekindi served as the Local Council V Councillor for Lwabenge and Secretary for Gender with the Masaka District Local Government between 2001 and 2007. She then held various administrative roles:
- Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kamuli District (2007–2011)
- Acting RDC for Buyende District (2010–2011)
- Deputy RDC for Tororo District (2011–2013)
- Deputy RDC for Lira District (2013–2014)
In 2016, Sekindi was elected as the Woman Member of Parliament for Kalungu District under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, defeating Aisha Naluyati Waligo of the Democratic Party. She retained her seat in the 2021 general elections.
On 6 June 2021, President Yoweri Museveni appointed her as the Minister of State for Water in the Ministry of Water and Environment.
Legislative Roles
As a legislator, Sekindi has been an active member of the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) and has served on the Committee on Agriculture.
