National Meteorological Training School(NMTS)

National Meteorological Training School (NMTS)  is a Division in the Department of Meteorological Services.

NMTS started in 1989 under the department of meteorology in the then Ministry of Natural Resources which later transformed into Ministry of Lands, Water and Environment.

It started as a training institution for low and medium level meteorologists (WMO Class IV and Class III), later it added on  WMO Class II technicians following the breakup of the East African Community.

Our Courses

  • DIPLOMA IN METEOROLOGY AND CLIMATE SCIENCE (DMCS)
  • DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURAL METEOROLOGY (DAGM)
  • CERTIFICATE IN METEOROLOGY (CM)
  • OTHER TAILORED SHORT COURSES:-These are customized to the need and requirement of the respective sectors or organization. These may include a Certificate of Competence in; Meteorological Instruments and Methods of observations, Aviation Meteorology, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Computer Applications among others

Mandate:

To train all medium meteorological personnel in Uganda which can deliver quality services to the fields of Meteorology, Aviation/Defence, Agriculture, Forestry/Agroforestry, Environment, Education.

Vision:

To be a reputable training institution providing knowledge, skills and Competencies in meteorology and related sciences for sustainable development.

Mission:

To produce well trained, competent and committed personnel for delivery of quality services in the fields of meteorology, aviation, forestry, environment, tourism, agriculture, Disaster and Preparedness etc.

Admission/Entry Windows

Government Sponsorship Through application to Joint Admissions Board (JAB) with Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) and

Technical Through application to Vocation Education and Training (TVET) with Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and a National Certificate from a recognized Institution. For Weather Products follow https://meteo.mwe.go.ug
